Sync with .AVI's

Is anybody doing any sync work with .AVI's here? I'm trying to find out how to do it with Pro Tools or if it's even possible because we're looking at investing into it in the very near future. Syncing to a separate PC would be acceptible, I'm just trying to figure out how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
