None that I'm aware of. You can check out http://www.harmony-central.com/Newp/105AES for a complete roundup of all of the new products announced at last weeks AES show in San Francisco, on the Harmony Central web site, an excellent source for music information. Opcode demo'ed a new USB midi interface on an iMac, but the lack of PCI slots coupled with the relative slowness of USB compared to SCSI makes the iMac probably limited to Sound Manager audio. And adding an external SCSI hard drive dedicated to recording audio would more than likely involve a USB to to SCSI adapter, which would slow down the transfer rate considerably, making that a poor option as well.

Not so much a response but rather another question in regards to the imac. Not that its important but i plan to buy a fully loaded PT4.0 TDM system for my 300mz Powermac
and i currently own an old 8100 and a audiomedia 2 card, what i wanted to know is, if it is possible to use the protools 3.4 dae powermix free software cdrom on my imac, i realize that it is not nor could it be a true Digital audio workstation machine (the imac), i.e. - drives ext but with it as such, it should be a good learning machine.
Merci and we love digi in Quebec.

Although we haven't tested it. Powermix should run just fine on the iMac.

Regarding the iMac soundcard. Check with Tascam. They have a USB device (w/MIDI) that looks doable.

For which software?

I am trying to run PowerMix 4.3.x (x=1,2) on an iMac SE with OS 9.0.3. This is my third day without success.

I did try also with dae342cs1.sea, DAE_Powermix_1.1.2.sit and DAESI311.sit but nothig is working. Every time I'd try to run ProTools, it hangs my computer.

Any idea?

Perhaps it's because of OS 9 ?

I know people who are running powermix on an Imac w/ OS 8.6 and it works perfect....

I'm not sure though, exactly which DAE version & powermix version they are using though...

Maybe someone else has this info...

Tascam just introduced a new PCI card for multi-tracking. Not much info on it, it won't be out until September.

Maybe you just typed the names as from the downloaded files, but a .sit file is a compressed file. It needs to be decompressed using Stuffit before it can be used. I hope I'm not trying to teach my grandmama how to suck eggs!
