how to make a "record player stopping" effect?

The new Liz Phair single "extraordinary" does it right before the second chorus. Also there was a Metallica song on the Mission Impossible 2 sound track (I think) that did it a couple of times in the song. It sounds like if you're playing a record player and you just unplug it. Any tips or tricks on how to do it right inside PT? I've played with time stretching/pitch fx's, but it's not a constant speed effect. It should constantly be dropping in pitch and slowing down at the same time, but really quickly and smoothly. Any ideas? Thanks!

There's a vst plug-in called Tape Stop (http://hem.bredband.net/tbtaudio/plugins.html) , which may just do what you want. I've yet to try it, though.

Hey, I didn't have the cash to buy vari-fi so I thought I'd check out "tape stop" since it was free and it did exactly what it was supposed to do- worked great! Just thought I'd share that in case anyone else was interested. Thanks again for the tips!

You could always load that portion of the song into a sampler, and ride the pitch bend wheel, or draw the pitch bend curves you like, too.
